Transitioning your wardrobe between seasons can sometimes feel like an impossible feat. Oftentimes we buy clothing that carries us through a season or two and end up discarding perfectly wearable items because they’re no longer “trendy” or because they aren’t practical pieces for the changing weather. This doesn’t affect just our pockets when we have to splurge for a new (seasonal) wardrobe, but it feeds into the larger issue of sustainability in the fashion industry. As the perceived shelf life of our clothing decreases, we are producing more waste in shorter periods of time, and consuming excess resources. That’s why we believe investing in a transeasonal wardrobe is one of the most effective ways to combat our increasing fashion footprint.
In a world where fast-fashion has become the new norm, you might be wondering what a transeasonal wardrobe means. We define transeasonal fashion as clothing that can be transitioned through seasons in connection to design, color, and fabric. These designs are considered timeless and can be worn for years to come, while colors and fabrics are not limited to certain seasons. We know it may be difficult to spot a true transeasonal item amidst the fast-fashion clutter, so we’ve compiled a list of tips to help guide you. The key to nailing a transeasonal wardrobe lies in three basic rules:
1) Purchase items that can be layered
Layering is truly an artform. Think about the fit, form and fabrics you are buying and how they can pair together. Bulkier pieces should be considered for top layers. Silks make great base or top layers as they regulate body temperature.
2) Avoid trendy designs and colors
Choose your clothing based on what you truly love: your personal style. Be sure that you are not (oftentimes subconsciously) falling victim to the latest trend. Pick colors that are classic and suit you. You can have a rainbow of colors in your wardrobe as long as they’re the right shades!
3) Choose your fabrics wisely
Cottons, linens, and silks are our favorite options as they work in all seasons. They’re breathable and eco friendly options as well. Try to stay away from polyester at all costs, the environment and your skin will thank you.
At Soul Studio, we consider longevity to be a pillar of sustainable fashion and an essential factor that plays into producing our one-of-a-kind garments. We favor designs that “transcend” seasons and trends, and that’s why every style we produce embodies a timeless, classic feel with an artistic touch. It is our goal to make sure our garments never go out of style because we want them to accompany you through every season, and every milestone.
As a radially transparent company we are always open to hearing you out and answering any questions. Feel free to reach out to our team via email, or Instagram messenger and keep the conversation going. (firstname.lastname@example.org / @wearesoulstudio)
